It is in Canada where back people have already lived starting from the transatlantic settlement. The overall popularity though only consists of a few that really came from their ancestral homeland which is Africa. It was in the year 1990’s thought that the term African Canadian was made popular. Regardless of the place that they were born, this term is given in order to determine their African descent.
When taking a look at history that it is the black Loyalists, Maroons, and refugees in the Maritimes that wear relocated away from larger white towns. Many of the slaves back then were taken to the Eastern Townships of Qu?bec. The areas of Halifax, Shelburne, Digby and Gyousborough in Nova Scotia and Saint John and Fredericton in New Brunswick all have a black settlement in the neighborhood. It is now that most of the immigrants from Africa and the West Indies are all going straight to the cities. It is the African Canadian that is now considered as the most urbanized ethnic groups in Canada. It is the attitude of the white Canadians that has already changed toward the black Canadians. When taking a look at Canadians today that the pressure of segregation no longer apply.
It is skilled and savings that most of the black community in Canada brought with them when they first migrated in the county during the 1850’s. This allows them to establish a small business. Working in farms is what black Canadians also are doing especially in the 20th century. It was during this era that black Canadians do receive a lower pay. When taking a look at the status of pay of black Canadians today though that they have dramatically improved. It is the immigrants of today that possess a high level of education, skills, and experience. They are also the ones that can be found in almost all occupational category.
It is the early blacks of Canada that were able to retain cultural characteristics and create a distinct community. They are able to develop their own styles of worship, music and speech, family structures and group traditions developed. This is what they are able to do in response to the conditions that they are living in the country. And it is now that the black Canadians are now being able to bring the Caribbean and African heritage to Canada. It is also them though that are adapting to the conditions of their life in the country. It is the values that they have that has been related on the way that they fought for freedom in the country and is the backbone of their black institutions. It is also this one that is the basis for the attitude that they have.
